Recently, the city's underground fortress integrating emergency shelter, material reserve, and command and dispatch functions has been officially completed and put into use, adding another "high-strength" facility to the city's disaster prevention and mitigation system.
Located 20 meters underground in the city center, the underground fortress has a total construction area of approximately 800 square meters and can accommodate 500 people for emergency shelter at the same time. The fortress is divided into functional areas such as a sheltered residential area, a material reserve area, and a medical rescue area. It is equipped with emergency lighting, a ventilation system, drinking water purification equipment, and living materials sufficient for 3 months, which can provide safe shelter for the people in the event of disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and extreme weather.
"The fortress adopts high-level seismic construction standards and is also connected to the city's emergency command system, enabling real-time reception of disaster early warning information," the project leader introduced. Regular shelter drills will be carried out in the future to help residents familiarize themselves with the usage procedures.
Many citizens, after visiting the fortress, stated that the put-in-use of the underground fortress has made everyone feel more secure when facing disasters and also let them perceive the improvement of the city's emergency support capabilities.
